Earth Medicine by Jamie Sams
This is a fantastic book for those that are fascinated by Native American philosophy.
It has many readings in this book, which each are very powerful in their own right, once you read one of the readings you really think about it, and try to reflect on the message that is held within.
Lessons of the flowering plants
Every kind of flower carries a different shape and a different colour. Every flower knows it is unique as well as beautiful. The lesson that the flower shows their humans Sisters and Brothers is one of love without comparison.
The flower teaches us that every colour and shape is individual and beautiful. Without fear or shame, the flowers turn their tiny faces up to catch the love and light of Grandfather Sun. They teach their human counterparts to love the differences in shape and form without comparing the beauty of one over the other. The earth Mother nurtures every plant, for they are all her children. The Thunder-beings send life-giving rains to water their growth, and all are fed by the light of Grandfather Sun.
It is only human beings who fear that they are less than perfect. They base their unloving judgments upon the authority of other people who are confused, having forgotten that uniqueness and beauty are found in all parts of creation.
